Case Study 2 Class Results

The patient has multiple dental caries. The posterior lower teeth are broken due to caries. The white on the front two teeth is a combination of dental plaque (food debris and bacteria) and hypomineralization (white spot lesion which progresses into full cavitation due to caries). The patient also has edematous and erythematous gingiva. Therefore, the patient most likely also has periodontal disease. In this case he had bleeding when brushing his teeth and pain on the lower right posterior tooth.
Questions that you might consider asking are diet, frequency of meals, oral hygiene habits, feeling of dry mouth, and date of their last dental appointment. In this case, the patient was sipping mountain dew constantly during work throughout the day. He brushed his teeth one time a day in the morning and did not floss his teeth.
As a medical provider you have multiple options to inform the patient about his oral health. A prescription of fluoride toothpaste, oral hygiene instructions, or simply informing the patient about your findings. It would be appropriate to have a referral to a dentist to treat his dental conditions.
Here are the class results for the case study:
Does he have any pain with chewing food, etc? Is there a previous history of GERD or bulimia? How long has he noticed the redness and inflammation to his gums?
How often do they have soda? Do they ever suffer from heartburn? Also need a PMH & FHx
do you use drugs?
Tooth brushing habits, medications, drug use, dentist visits, oral pain?
what are his dental hygiene habits?
Brushing habits
Does he frequently vomit?
